Okay, I've been very lax and way behind on my reviews. However, that doesn't mean I haven't kept dining out around town, quite the contrary. There are seemingly more and more great places that are popping up - and/or - that just continue to serve excellent food and drink. So - take a moment and see what I've added.

Aunt Alice's Kitchen is a typical
small town cafe atmosphere. Some may call it a 'greasy spoon' but
that's not what I experienced. Their food quality was equal to
one your chain restaurants here and the breakfast I had was done
very well. I ordered two (2) eggs with sausage ($4.65) and it came
with more links than I normally have had in other diners. The eggs,
hash browns and toast were all delicious and the waitress kept
my coffee filled to the brim. I never once had to ask for it, which
is nice for change. I sat at the counter and was served quickly
so my turnaround time was quite fast. I enjoyed this because I
needed to be somewhere. I had been to Alice's probably 8 or 9 years
ago and had never been back because of the 'smoky' atmosphere.
With the smoking ban, I can now say this will be a place I'll
be back for my weekend breakfasts for sure. Be sure and stop in
and enjoy the wonderful, quick service.

Mike O'Shays is a neat restaurant
with that warm, dark feeling of a typical bar/restaurant you would
expect to find downtown. The atmosphere for dinner the night I
went was very busy and loud. This place was hopping. The wait was
a bit long (45 minutes), so forewarned. Once we did get seated,
the staff waited on us very quickly and the salads were brought
before I could find my napkin. I ordered one of the specials, Prime
Rib. The meal was wonderful, and vegetables were very tasty and
the whole dish was presented very nicely. Happy hour was before
6:00pm and there seemed to be a brief lull sometime after we sat
down
6:15pm
and
6:45pm. The waitress was prompt and timely with refills and making
sure we were attended to. I am rating the atmosphere a Good, rather
than Great only because I don't tend to enjoy 'loud' places. It
seemed I had a hard time hearing my friend during our evening out
and it felt to me like I was yelling. The place is not too large
but typical, and the bar is in the middle of the restaurant so
there's a lot of noise in the place. Mike O'Shays is obviously
a great local hangout where many people were enjoying the evening.
Sunny Vale Cafe is a
small neighborhood cafe. It has a very relaxed and quite atmosphere
and the help was very fast to greet me and serve me coffee and
take my order. The food came quickly and it was good. I ordered
two eggs and bacon with ranch potatoes. There's
not
too
much
that
can
go wrong with this meal, but it could have been better I thought.
The potatoes we very plain without much seasoning or taste and
the coffee tasted watered down. Personally, I love my
coffee in the mornings and some of you may understand this,
so
I would
have
to rate this restaurant a "good" rather than a "great" because
of the coffee and the potatoes.

Pinocchio's is a quaint
restaurant in downtown Longmont. It is located across from the
Longmont Performing Arts Center. The atmosphere is not exciting.
This is one area that could be improved greatly. I didn't even
see one item that even looked Italian, nor was there a picture
of Pinocchio. Oh yeah, the food, that's what I went for and it
was very good. I went for lunch and I was rather
surprised they didn't have a separate menu for lunch. Therefore,
the prices were the same as a dinner, which ran $9.95. The
salad was fresh and did not look like it was 'out of the bag',
which is a pet peeve
of mine,
since
I
can do that at home. I ordered the Chicken Ravioli with mushrooms
and the dish was very delicious. The garlic cream sauce was
not over done and you could enjoy the fine taste of all of
the ingredients without it being overwhelmed by the sauce. The
portions
were generous so there was no room for desert. My only complaint
was I could really taste the pepper in the sauce and since
I do not normally enjoy an abundance of pepper (specifically)
that
was my only real complaint. Otherwise, it was quite enjoyable.

Martini's Bistro is located in the old West side neighborhood of Longmont in an old Victorian Mansion. If you were familiar with the previous restaurant, ChriSar's, then you know the house. Truly - that's all that remains, because the atmosphere and the food are completely different, and quite enjoyable. I find that the wait staff are very attentive to your needs, while the Chef's prepare a delicious variety from steak, chicken and seafood, but with a slight twist. This is not your ordinary restaurant food, and neither are the martini's. If you love them or if you don't - you'll enjoy sitting outside during the wonderful Colorado skies or inside where it's cool (or hot) depending on the season. If you are looking for a nice place to hold a small gathering for a dinner party, I've done that too. Reserve the room ahead of time and order plenty of food and relax. The atmosphere is like being waited on at home, comfortable. (consistently excellent)

Le Peep is a wonderful breakfast and lunch place. I have eaten here many times for a late Saturday, Sunday or Monday morning breakfast, and also have dined on occasion during lunch. Although I prefer their breakfasts, the food in general is very good on a very regular basis. The wait staff are excellent and I never need to ask for coffee because they deliver you a pitcher full to your table (regular or decaf). I tend rate a breakfast place by their variety and by their coffee. So in my opinion, they have a great selection from your standard eggs and bacon selections, to wonderful waffles and great omelets or other unique dishes they have dreamed up. You can dine inside or out on their patio and take in the wonderful views or stay inside and enjoy the country feel wood tables and chairs. Don't forget to try their smoothies too. (Yum) (consistently excellent)

Sakura Japanese Cuisine - is one of my favorite specialty restaurants. Since I used to live on Maui (Hawaii) for over 12 years, I have developed a certain taste for raw fish, fine sushi, delicious tempura and just some really good Saki. So, if this describes you too, then you need to visit this restaurant. It's not very large, so seating at the lunch hour or dinner hour can cause a wait, the food is always excellent and fresh, and prepared in that lovely Japanese artistic way that makes you want to just enjoy the presentation before taking your first bite. They can handle a packed house without missing a beat, so don't wait, head over tomorrow for your next 'box lunch' special. (consistently excellent)

Ragazzi Italian Grill - This restaurant has been in Longmont for several years and moved into a spot that was also an Italian restaurant before they moved in. They've remodeled the inside and have made it look very nice and warm. Inside I found a very nice family restaurant, with a nice variety of items on a fairly large menu from appetizers to the Italian classics, pasta or calzones. I chose their Veal Parmesean which is a lightly breaded veal cutlet on linguini topped with mozzarella. It was quite tasty. It came with a side salad and bread. Since I was raised with a wonderful italian mom who would make her spaghetti and sauce from scratch, I can get quite picky about my sauces. Their sauce was tasty without it being too spicey or nondescript, which allowed for the rest of the flavors to come through. The portion was very large and filling with enough left over for me to have something to take home. I would recommend this place for a nice evening out, the atmosphere is nice, their service was friendly and prompt and the pricing was reasonable. Since this is a family owned operation and not a 'chain', I tend to prefer the friendly family touch that this place gives you. Give it a try next time you're in the neighborhood looking for a nice Italian meal.

Toni Rigatoni's: Went there for lunch shortly after they were open and I enjoyed the meal. Staff were very friendly and the food portions were very large for a lunch. Managed to have a great lunch and take food home too.
11/2007 - An update to this review. I've been back for lunch a couple of times and have not had the best of experiences. The waitress brought the wrong dish for a friend (that happens) and so we had to wait for their food to come and by then I was done with my meal. Also, there did not seem to be that many servers, so waiting for our waitress seemed like an eternity. The pizza buffet I ordered was okay, but I've had better pizza when the old "Woody's Pizza" place was still open. I have had other friends tell me that they had dinner there and loved it. I will be stopping by for a dinner some time to evaluate that option.

Deli Cioso: This is a local mexican restaurant that has very good tasting food for a very good price. Lunch or dinner can be busy in this place, but the wait is well worth it. If you go for lunch, you'll go to the counter and place your order and take a seat. There is a side of the restaurant where you'll be seated with menus and be waited on, your choice. Sushi Hana: This Japanese restaurant has been open for a little while now and I've enjoyed lunches and dinner here. Lunch is very reasonable, you can order a box type lunch which includes soup, salad and your entree or order off of the menu. Dinners can be more pricey, depends on what you order. Sashimi and Sushi are fresh and prepared wonderfully. (food is consistent)
